Let the 2016 pre-draft workouts begin!
The Sacramento Kings held their first of what is expected to be around six or seven pre-draft group workouts leading to the 2016 NBA Draft on June 23. Today’s workout at the team’s practice facility featured six prospects that could all be considered longshots to even make it to the NBA, but each are taking this opportunity very seriously.
One participant was especially excited to be working out for the Kings. 6-4 guard Mike Bryson grew up in Sacramento watching the likes of Vlade Divac and Peja Stojakovic and later was a standout on the Foothill High School basketball squad.
Bryson attended UC Santa Barbara where he averaged 18.0 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 2.4 assists as a senior for the Gauchos.
Others attending today’s workout were Brennan Greene SF (Kansas), Josh Hagins PG (Arkansas Little Rock), Max Hooper G (Oakland), Jordan Loveridge F (Utah), and Gabe York G (Arizona).
Leading the workout was new head coach Dave Joerger and assistants Corliss Williamson and Nancy Lieberman. The rest of the team’s front office staff were also in attendance.
It’s nice to see Corliss and Nancy are here in Sac and further provides a strong indication that they will both be retained as members of Joergger’s coaching group moving forward.
The team will hold another group workout on May 24. Participants will be announced in the coming days. Workouts with the players expected to be considered for the Kings’ first round selection will likely be announced in the coming weeks, and likely will be solo exhibitions.
